چکیده
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was the evaluation of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography with Technetium 99m Methylene Diphosphonate (SPECT with 99mTc-MDP) and computed tomography (CT), simultaneously acquired image in diagnosis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. STUDY DESIGN A prospective study was conducted with 33 patients, 29 female and 4 male, all of then presenting signs and/or complaints suggestive of temporomandibular dysfunction. SPECT/CT with 99mTc-MDP was performed in all patients and imaging results compared with final diagnosis and clinical outcome. RESULTS The correlation of signs and symptoms with SPECT/CT imaging showed sensitivity 100%, specificity 90.91%, and accuracy 96.97%. CONCLUSIONS SPECT/CT with 99mTc-MDP coregistered imaging fusion is a suitable method of temporomandibular dysfunction diagnosis, due to the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy observed.

SPECT-CT fusion in the diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism
Objective(s): In this study, we aimed to analyze the relationship between the diagnostic ability of fused single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) images in localization of parathyroid lesions and the size of adenomas or hyperplastic glands. Methods: Five patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and 4 patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) we...
متن کاملExtra osseous uptake of 99mTc-MDP in psoas muscle on bone scintigraphy: Importance of SPECT/CT imaging
Incidental extra-osseous uptake of 99mTc-MDP on bone scintigraphy has been frequently reported in the literature; however, calcification of the psoas muscle is a rare condition, which has been reported on magnetic resonance (MR) and computed tomography (CT) imagings. Here we report a 67-year-old woman with acute paraplegia and low back pain who was referred for a 99mTc-MDP...
متن کاملRadionuclide bone SPECT/CT in orthopaedics
Radionuclide 99mTc-MDP planar bone scan is the most commonly performed nuclear medicine procedure and may aid diagnosis of benign and malignant bone pathologies. 99mTc-MDP is injected intravenously and subsequently taken up by osteoblasts and incorporated into the bone matrix. In the process it acts as a marker for new bone formation, bone turnover and local vascularity. The high sensitivity of...
متن کاملEvaluation of mandibular invasion by head and neck cancers using 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate or 99mTc-hydroxymethylene diphosphonate and 201Tl chloride dual isotope single photon emission computed tomography.
Whether a patient with head and neck cancer has mandibular invasion or not is important in determining the method of resection surgery. But, no modality is adequately reliable when used alone in the evaluation of mandibular invasion. Therefore, to more accurately diagnose mandibular invasion in head and neck cancer, we used a new modality, namely, 99mTc methylene diphosphonate (MDP) or 99mTc hy...
متن کاملSinus Tarsi Syndrome: Diagnosed on 99m-Tc MDP Bone SPECT/CT
Sinus Tarsi Syndrome is a cause of chronic ankle instability and pain. MRI of the ankle has been the modality of choice for diagnosing the condition. However, SPECT-CT offers an alternate modality for diagnosing and evaluation of the condition. We present the case of a footballer who was suffering from chronic right leg pain despite receiving physiotherapy. He was being managed as a case of a c...
